introduceLUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC contains Bimatoprost which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-glaucoma preparations. It is used to treat glaucoma. Glaucoma is group of eye condition that damages the optic nerve (nerves which are responsible for proper vision). It is characterized by increased pressure within the eyes. It is caused due to impaired secretion or drainage of fluids (aqueous humour) within the eyes.
Bimatoprost improves the drainage of the accumulated fluids (aqueous humour) from the eye. As a result, it helps in reducing the elevated pressure within the eye. Prior to the treatment, your doctor would take certain eye tests to understand your existing condition.
Before using LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC, inform your doctor if you had undergone any surgery in your eyes (such as cataract) as a precaution. You must also inform your doctor if you have infections in your eye or any underlying heart conditions (such as low blood pressure or low heart rate).
During treatment with LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC, you may experience certain changes in your eye such as sunken eyes, eyelid drooping, skin tightening around the eyes, sudden growth in eyelashes or darkness around the eyes or in the iris. These side effects are usually temporary and disappears once therapy is stopped.
Consult your doctor before using LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as a precaution. LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC is usually not prescribed in children and adolescents (below 18 years).
How to useUse LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC as advised by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Wash your hands before use. Instil few drops of LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC into the affected eye. Close your eyes and press the corner of your eye with your finger for a minute.
Do not touch the tip of the dropper with your eye or other body surface to avoid contamination. Apply applying LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC, leave a time gap of at least 5 minutes before applying other eye drops or ointment. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove the lens before applying LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinsertion.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop using LUMIGAN 0.03% OPHTHALMIC without consulting your doctor, as the pressure within the eye may raise once again.
